Letters to the Editor Policy

All newspapers encourage letters to the editor and intend to print the opinions of their readers with as few restrictions as possible. The Echo is no exception.

Rules governing letters to the editor in the Echo are:

  1. All letters must be signed, and the name of the writer will be printed with all letters published.
  2. The writer must submit his/her letter in person and satisfactorily identify themselves, or submit a telephone number to be used to verify that the letter was actually written by the person whose name is included on it, delaying the publication if necessary to make the verification.
  3. Letters will not be accepted from people outside the local coverage area unless the letters are written on a topic primarily of local interest.
  4. If a letter attacks another group, the Echo will allow a response in the same edition.
  5. Letters should not exceed 300 words and may be edited for length and content.

E-mail your letters to the Editor, which conform to the above rules to opinion@theecho.ca

A Final Word from St. Paul's 2010 Silent Auction
Feb 24, 2010

It has been over a week since St. Paul’s United Church Silent Auction was held.  The Church basement was filled with people placing bids and feasting on a great pancake breakfast.  There was much laughter amid the serious bidding that was taking place!
Unfortunately not all items had arrived prior to printing the Item List that was inserted in the ECHO the week of the Auction.  We had several ”New Arrival” items including gift cards from Walmart in Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay, 2 Ferry Tickets for Mackinac Island,  the book “Gardening Grief and Glory” by CBC’s Ed Lawrence and  from here in Manitouwadge gift certificates from Wok‘n’Rolls, Friends, and Martin’s Eavestroughing and Renovations and a week’s free surveillance from Hawberry Fields.
Our very sincere thanks goes out to all who supported our Auction by donating, bidding, attending, and working at our Auction.  Thanks also to Scott and Bunny at the ECHO for supporting us again this year. We are already talking about our 2011 Auction! Please speak to someone at St. Paul’s if you have ideas for next year.
