According to the new garbage bylaw, the wooden garbage bin that I use is no longer considered acceptable for use by the Public Works Dept.
My bin is made of a suitable material (wood, hinged lid, side handle and wheels. If I modify it and put two garbage cans inside and have a side door, then it is acceptable?
They also will not pick up bags or boxes placed out by the road unless box is collapsed and bundled either. Even if it sitting on top of your can - they will pick it up - place it on the ground and take your bags from inside the can only. (A pizza box is not considered collapsed)
Most people fill the boxes with newspapers, magazines etc to throw out, Collapsing a box for this would defeat the purpose of using the box to throw out other items. If they were being sent to a recycling centre, fine, but just to be included in the compactor with household garbage?
Many Manitouwadge residents work hard to keep their yards mowed and gardens tidy, so it is not unusual to have bag and boxes of waste set out with the trash,
How and where are we supposed to dispose of our waste when it is not picked up?
Many of the new regulations are impractical and common sense should be used for garbage pickup, We don’t need our community modeled after other cities and provinces for our waste disposal.
If you agree with me about the negative aspects of the bylaw, then please phone the township or sign a petition to get this bylaw changed to reflect the needs of “our town and citizens” and not be modeled on cities from southern Ontario or other provinces.
